664 Sjt Robert James Tipping, Enl.16Sep1918, WIA 14Apr1917 GSW right wrist, RTA 08Aug1918. MM LG 06Aug1918 CAG 12Dec1918 'During operations at Dernancourt S.W. of Albert on 28th March 1918, he displayed wonderful bravery and initiative. He was with two guns at the quarries (E.1.4.c), and when his officer was wounded he immediately assumed command and organised the defence of the locality. Later when the infantry were reinforcing the forward troops and were suffering numerous casualties, he showed utter disregard for personal danger in getting their wounded into safety. He went out again and again under heavy rifle, machine gun and artillery fire and was certainly responsible for saving many lives. His coolness and cheerfulness set a great example to his men'. Together with thirty three pages of research including Service Record.
