Capt Edward Lumsden Dalkeith Enl.05Feb1915 W.I.A.01Sep1918 GSW right shoulder, RTA.23Mar1919. MC LG 01Feb1919 CAG 03Jun1919 'On 1st September 1918, during the attack on Peronne, he was in charge of "A" Company. The enemy put down a heavy artillery and machine gun barrage, and only Captain Dalkeith and one other officer in the Company remained unwounded. He led his men with great coolness, and in order to assist his advance he took possesion of an enemy field gun and fired 50 rounds with great affect. Realising that the left flank of the Brigade was in danger, he swung his Company round and gave effective protection. He was now the only officer left with the Company, but he carried on coolly and courageously, setting a fine example to his men, and whilst looking after the interests of his own Company at the same time rendered valuable aid to other sections of the Brigade'.
