Jahangir, (A.H. 1014-1037), (A.D. 1605-1628), silver rupee, heavy issue (13.71 grams), Ahmadabad mint, regnal year 2, A.H. 1016 (1607-8), (KM. 152.2). About extremely fine and rare.

These unusual Jahangir heavy rupees were the first issues for and were 20% overweight. They were struck from several mints for several years and weighed from 13.4-13.7 grams as compared to the normal issue of later in his reign of 11.2-11.5 grams. A contemporary second series was also struck at 25% overweight.
