Description

United States, Feuchtwanger's cent, 1837, struck in German silver, (Yeoman red book 1989 p.261). Very fine and scarce.

Dr. Lewis Feuchtwanger produced a metal which was really a variety of german silver (nickel, copper and zinc). He suggested as early as 1837 to Congress that his metal be substituted for copper, and he made one cent (above coin) and three cent trial pieces.
