New Zealand pattern penny, 1879 by Joseph Moore, Birmingham (A.399). Well struck, red and brown, uncirculated and very rare, only about 80 struck.

Ex Allan Sutherland Collection. Together with Sutherland's hand written ticket detailing the purchase from Baldwin's in 1933 (cost ?1.0.0, plus charges). This piece illustrated in a "Dominion" (Wellington) newspaper article (photocopy supplied) on Saturday November 25, 1933, revealing this to be New Zealand's most valuable coin, "worth only ?5 at present", but expected by numismatists of the day to increase to ?200-?300 over "the next few decades".
