Description

The Otago Banking Company, only issue, one pound, Dunedin, hand written date 27th May 1895, written in 95 over 185, not numbered, no imprint, signed with signatures (Robb.P.T.U.14a; L.552; P.S337; Sutherland pp.185 and other pages; Hargreaves pp.65-75). Not issued, with some staining, a complete note, 20 mm tear in centre, many creases and folds, some discolouration, otherwise very good and rare.

Ex Brian Bolton Collection, Sale 85 (lot 3745), Sale 54 (lot 3053) and A. Halligan and Ross Meads Collections. The company is fully discussed in the above references but its notes were never officially issued, due to the company failing to obtain a charter. The signatures and date are a later addition, probably as an attempt to defraud.
