Description
Wartime correspondence, from Australian soldier in New Guinea sent to his brother-in-law in Australia in 1944, all letters sent by same soldier also included together with two letters of denial for importation into Australia of wartime relic, both from the Collector of Customs, one in August 1944, the other in September 1944.
The letters from Sig L.J.Taylor NX120526 (N185515) No 1 Platoon, HQ Coy, 35 Bn, make interesting reading and describe a whipping handed out by an ANGAU officer to a New Guinea native who collaborated with the Japanese and another incident regarding the killing of a Japanese prisoner by Australian soldiers. These are only two of the incidents from a series of letters written between 8 September 1942 and 31 March 1945. Ex Tom Hanley Collection.
