Description

British War Medal 1914-18. 1001 Pte D. Alberts. A.N.& M.E.F.; Victory Medal 1914-19. 1986 Cpl G. Wemyss 23 Bn. A.I.F. Both medals impressed. First medal is very fine, second medal has corrosion and solder mark on obverse, otherwise good fine, two single medals.

Pte Alberts was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He joined the Australian Army Medical Corps and served with A.N. & M.E.F. in Rabaul, German New Guinea for 6-months from 20 November 1915 to 28 March 1916. He was discharged in Sydney with reason given as 'Services no longer required' which was rather kind because Lt-Col L.C. Strangman had previously given instructions to give him an 'unsatisfactory discharge.' The British War Medal 1914-18 is his sole entitlement. George Wemyss embarked 15Jun1915, WIA 04Aug1916 in France and KIA 03May1917 in France. Together with documentation verifying KIA and scanned portrait. Ex Tom Hanley Collection.
