James Barrett Enl.06Aug1915 RTA 28Mar1919. DCM - LG 03Sep1919 P11182, p.6 'For gallantry and devotion to duty from 25th February to 16 September, 1918. L/Cpl. Barrett as L.G. N.C.O. has at all times carried out his duties in a very efficient manner. On night 22nd/23rd August forward of Proyart when following the Infantry during the advance all his gunners and carriers became casualties in a heavy barrage. Unaided he carried the wounded to a place of safety and then advanced and joined his working party. By his coolness and disregard of danger he has at all times set a splendid example to his section under fire.' Together with tribute fob in gold (15ct, 6.6gms, 42mm x 28mm) and enamel, reverse inscribed "Presented to Cpl. J. Barrett D.C.M./by/Residents of Wyelang/on his return/from the war/8.8.19".
