Palestine, Judaea, King Agrippa II under Titus, (A.D. 56 [50] - 95), copper as?, AE 27, (15.05 grams), Provincial coinage acknowledging Roman Rule, probably struck at Caesarea Paneas, issued year 19 = A.D. 79-80, obv. laureate head to right of Titus, around AYTO[KPA TITOC KAICAP CEBACTOC], starting upper right, rev. Tyche standing to left on base holding ears of corn and cornucopiae, across [E]T0Y I**Q BA/ **[A]GRI PP[A]*, (S.5584, AJC II 17 [p.252, Pl.13], RPC 2257, H.597 [85], Meshorer 112 [p.145, Pl.XV], BMC -, Maltiel-Gerstenfeld 158 [this coin illustrated). Nearly fine/good fine and very rare.
Ex Maltiel-Gerstenfeld Collection (No.158) and illustrated in his "260 years of Ancient Jewish Coins", and from Numismatic Fine Arts auction Sale XXVIII, April 23, 1992, (lot 116 illustrated [estimated $650US] and sold after the sale). This coin is also illustrated in Jacob Maltiel-Gerstenfeld's "New Catalogue of Ancient Jewish Coins", Tel-Aviv, 1987 as No. 175 (p.100) and valued by him in the supplement at $600US. RPC notes 4 examples known and state that they believe they were issued in July August A.D.79.
