Palestine, Judaea, King Agrippa II under Vespasian but issued by Titus as Caesar, (A.D. 56 [50] - 95), copper as?, AE 25, (10.75 grams), Provincial coinage acknowledging Roman Rule, probably struck at Caesarea Paneas, issued year 18 = A.D. 78-9, obv. laureate head to right of Titus, around AYTOKP TITOC [KAICAP CEBACTOC, starting upper right, rev. Nike advancing to right, holding wreath in right hand and palm branch over shoulder, across ET HI B[A]/ **AGRI PP[A]*, (S.5583, AJC II 15 [p.252, Pl.13], RPC 2255, H.596 [-], Meshorer 111 [p.145, Pl.XV], BMC 17-8). Good fine/very fine and very rare.
Ex Maltiel-Gerstenfeld Collection but not illustrated in his book, "260 years of Ancient Jewish Coins", described as such and noted, from Superior Auction sale December 1-2, 1990 (lot 2200) and then Numismatic Fine Arts auction Sale XXVIII, April 23, 1992, (lot 115 illustrated [estimated $500US] and sold after the sale). RPC note only three known examples of this type.
