Description
Decorative art glass, irregular shaped (187mm x 147mm x 35mm) freestanding, clear glass slab with etched engraving of a rearing stallion by renowned glass engraver, Helmut Hiebl of Murringo, New South Wales.
Helmut Hiebl was commissioned by Austria's leading engraving firm, Lobmeyr, to engrave the Austrian Houses of Parliament on a large crystal tray that was presented to Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Austria in 1971. He was invited to join Steuben, part of the world-famous Crown Corning glassworks in New York as an engraver of prestige pieces. He migrated to Australia in 1976 establishing his own glassworks at Murringo. He has had two pieces accepted for the Blake Prize competition and has been invited to exhibit in major Australian cities.
