Description

Hookah pipe, also known as nargila or sisha or ghalyum, probably WWI period Egypt, approximately 80cm high, made of brass with copper highlights, the water jar decorated with a floral pattern and coloured black, gold, silver and copper, and with polished timber mouthpiece. Very fine.

Once predominately used in India, its place of origin, and the Middle East, the hookah is now used widely throughout the world for smoking tobacco, real or herbal, with hookah cafes operating in many countries. Note that in New Zealand the hookah pipe is a prohibited import.
