Pith Helmet by Davies Bryan & Co, Alexandra, Cairo & Khartoum marked "Christys' London For The Tropics". Written inside is the name "Lt S.L.Perry / 13th Batt / A.I.F." Very fine and rare.
Lt-Col Stanley Llewellyn Perry D.S.O., M.C., M.I.D. left Australia with 13th Battalion in 1914 and participated in the landing on Gallipoli. He saw service in Egypt and France and at all times showed great tactical skill and unfailing resource in handling the Unit under his command. He left Australia as a 2nd Lieutenant and by his untiring energy and devotion to duty rose to the rank of Lt Col, Commanding Officer 48th battalion, A.I.F. He was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous bravery in France on 14th August 1916 with 45th Battalion and the Distinguished Service Order for gallant conduct during the advance of his battalion, the 48th, to the capture of the Blue Line west of Proyart. Despite being wounded in the advance he continued to command and control the final capture. Three times recommended foe Mention in Despatches, the first for exceptionally good work at Bullecourt in April 1917 and Messines June 1917. With research for the awards.
