Ellis Le Geyt Troughton, C.M.Z.S., F.R.Z.S. (1893 - 1974) served longer on the scientific staff of the Australian Museum than any other person and he was the first full-time Curator of Mammals in any museum in Australia. He was a significant author on the subject of mammals and discovered numerous rats, many bats, some whales and several marsupials from Australia and the Pacific. During the final phases of WWII he served in New Guinea with the Tropical Scientific Section, A.I.F. investigating the mammal reservoirs of scrub typhus, on the recommendation of, and reportiing to, the U.S.A.
