Group of Four: Military Medal (GVR); British War Medal 1914-18; British War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. 3958 Pte G.H.Trew. 2 Bn. Aust: Inf:, same on second medal but A.I.F., N65913 G.H.Trew on third and fourth medals. Impressed. Very fine.
MM Citation: 'For conspicuous devotion to duty during the operations at Passchendale, East of Ypres. On 6th November 1917 Private Trew acted as Coy. runner, and when all other communications failed he successfully delivered messages to Bn. Hqrs on several occasions. The delivery of these messages necessitated his passing through two distinct enemy barrages of great intensity. He volunteered for the same duty later in the day but was ordered to desist.' L.G. 23 February 1918, p.2435 and C.G. 25 July 1918, p.1588. Pte Trew was charged and found guilty of 'Disobeying orders' or 'Insolence to an N.C.O.' on six occasions between 28 April 1916 to 23 March 1917. He was also subject of a Field General Court Martial after being charged with 'When in lawful custody escaping'. He was found guilty and sentenced to 2-months confined, reduced to 1-month by Brigadier Genneral Graham Thompson CB 24 May 1916. He was WIA on 24 June 1918. With copy of Service Record.
