Phrygia, Laodikeia, (c.100-90 B.C.), silver cistophoric tetradrachm, (12.300 grams), obv. cista mystica containing serpent, all within ivy wreath, rev. bow in case between two coiled serpents, to left **[LA]O*, to right a caduceus with fillet, monogram of ANTI above, (cf.S.5147, SNG von Aulock -, SNG Cop. -, BMC 13 [variant monogram]). Good very fine and unpublished except for the few examples listed all coming from the one hoard.

Ex Noble Numismatics Auction Sale 82 (lot 3924) and previously from the Garth R. Drewry Collection, CNG Triton VIII Sale (lot 1881 part) and previously from Ponterio & Assoc. Auction Sale 63, June 22, 1993 (lot 2597, wrong illustration with ticket). A extremely rare symbol from a scarce cistophori mint. A similar example in a CNG Sale Triton VI (January 14, 2003 lot 425) from of the same type with same symbols was sold at US $525 +15%.
