Lower Portland School of Arts, fob in gold (9ct, 13.3gms) 28mm by W. Kerr, ornate scrolled mount with ring top suspension, obverse inscribed "Lower Portland/School of Arts/J.C." reverse inscriibed "Pres. to/Hon. J. Cook/on the occassion/of the/ official opening/24.6.12". Extremely fine.

Lower Portland is located in the Hawkesbury district of New South Wales. Rt. Hon Sir Joseph Cook was Prime Minister of Australia during 1913-14. He was born in England in December 1860 and arrived in Australia in 1885. He served as Postmaster General from 1894-98 and Minister for Mines and Agriculture 1898-99, Member of the House of Representatives for Parramatta 1901-21. He retired from public life in 1922 and died on 30 July 1947.
