The International Exhibition of 1862 or Great London Exposition, was a world's fair. It was held from 1 May to 1 November, 1862 in South Kensington, London on a site that now houses museums including the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. The Australasian Steam Navigation Company came into being by NSW Act of Parliament in 1850. Formally known as Hunter River Steam Navigation Company, the directors saw potential for growth with the aim of serving Australasia as a major shipping concern, thus the formation of the new company. In 1887 they merged with their rival, the Queensland Steam Shipping Company, becoming Australasian United Steam Navigation Company. The AUSN Co was acquired by P&O in 1914.
