Bombay Presidency, Indian design, Ahmadabad Mint issue, in the name of Mohammad Akbar II (A.H.1221-1253, A.D. 1806-1837), silver rupees, various dates, A.H. 123[3-4], Regnal Year 12; A.H. 1239; A.H. 1243, another date off flan, last three without Regnal years, (Pr. -, KM.260). Very fine and scarce. (4)
The mint at Ahmadabad was acquired by the British in A.D. 1818 (A.H.1233) and finally closed in 1835. The EIC issues are very distinctive to the other issues by its specific mintmarks of sun and rays (normal for Ahmadabad) and the six petal flower. The ankus mark (the Maratha mark) appears on the issues for the Maratha Confederacy and Baroda, which for the later also have the Nagari initial of the ruler.
