Jahangir, (A.H. 1014-1037, A.D.1605-1628), round Gold mohur, (10.19 grams), struck in Agra mint, issued A.H. 1020 (A.D. 1611-2), Regnal Year 6, Khurdad month, Agra mint signature, obv. in diamond with hatching, 'Shah Nur-ad-din Jahangir, son of Akbar Padishah', rev. in multifoil area, Regnal Year, hijri date, month and mint signature, (cf.Lucknow 1183, cf. Nagpur 313, not in BMC, Punjab Museum Cat., Indian Museum Calcutta, cf.KM. SAC 176.1). Has been mounted, otherwise nearly very fine, very rare.
Ex. Spink & Son, London Sept. 13, 1978 by private treaty. $$ The type with distinctive outer fields particularly on the obverse is unlisted in any major publication. This is the period that Nelson Wright regards as marking the culminating point of excellence in the Mogul series.
