Enl.14Jul1915 Keswick (SA) D.C.M.20Nov1917 R.T.A.15May1919 DCM.: L.G.: 01Mar1918 C.G.: 25Jul1918 'At noon on 21st October 1917 the refilling point for field gun ammunition immediately to the east of Ypres was bombarded by the enemy whilst motor lorries were engaged in unloading ammunition and D.A.C. ammunition wagons were refilling. A motor lorry was smashed and casualities were caused amongst the personnel and animals and the corduroy road leading to the dump as destroyed. No.7957 Battery Sergeant Major F.S.Marshall immediately proceeded to organise a breakdown party and after carrying away the wounded men proceeded to repair the road and enable the vehicles to get clear of the dump. His initiative and brave conduct were magnificent example to all ranks and he is deserving of special recognition'. (Originally recommended for the M.C.)
