Trajan, (A.D.98-117), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued 115, (24.96 grams), obv. laureate draped bust of Trajan to right, around IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P, rev. Trajan seated to right on platform, (accompanied by two officers), haranguing a gathering of soldiers who stand before him, IMPERATOR VIII / S C in exergue, (S.3187, RIC 655, BMC 1017, C.176). Dark green attractive patina, weak on part of obverse legend, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare in this condition.
Sear believes that the issue relates to the acclamation by his troops following Trajan's capture of the Mesopotanian city of Singara.
