Description
Bombay Presidency, Indian Design, Bombay mint, 1801-1802, in the name of Shah Alam II (A.H. 1173-1221, A.D. 1759-1806), gold mohur, (11.59 grams), with frozen regnal year 4[6], privy mark No. 2 (three lozenges, one over two over inverted crescent), dumpy flan, without A.H. date, (Pr. 257, KM.242, Not in BMC). Nearly extremely fine, and very rare.
Ex Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 48 (lot 2105). The E.I.C. used the crescent mint mark at Bombay from 1801 which in 1802 was replaced by an issue with a panel in the field with an incuse 1802 within. This above issue had a very limited issue, and few specimens apparently survive.
