Calabria, Tarentum, (500-473 B.C., 490-480 B.C. F-B chronology), silver nomos or stater, (8.05 grams), obv. Taras to r., riding on dolphin's back with arm left extended, right behind holding cuttle fish or octapus, below TAPA**[S]*, rev. Sea horse (Hippocamp), to r., with curled wing, beneath a pecten of globular fabric, within circular border, (S.224, Vl.101/104 (p.15, Pl.IV, these dies), HN (Rutter) 827 [p.93], Evans 2nd Group Hippocamp, F-B Group 3, No. 65 (p.58-59, obv. die V27, rev. die R50), cf.SNG ANS 831 (Pl.22), Cote 28 (very similar obverse die). Very fine and very rare.
