Jerusalem, Latin Kingdom, John of Brienne (1210-1225), billon denier, obv. +IOHES:REX, cross patt‚e, annulets in two opposite angles, rev. +DA[MI]A[TA],crowned head facing (MPS 43-45 [p.80], Metcalf 202-205 [Pl.12]). Flat spots but otherwise good fine and scarce.
John of Brienne married the heiress of the kingdom and led the abortive 5th crusade to attack Damietta in the Nile delta.
