Mn. Aquillius Mn.f.Mn.n., (c.71 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.70 grams), obv. Virtus helmeted bust to right, VIRTVS III.VIR around, rev. Consul Man. Aquillius raising Sicilia, MN AQVIL MN F MN N to left and right, trace of SICIL in exergue, (S.336 [£65 VF], Cr.401/1, Syd.798, RSC Aquillia 2). Serrated edge, toned, very fine and scarce.
Type refers to the successes in Sicily of Man. Aquillius (consul 101 B.C.) and to the exceptional valour which he displayed throughout the war.
