Peloponnesos, Achaean League, Antigoneia mint (formerly Mantineia in Arkadia), (c.188-180 B.C.), silver hemidrachm, (2.33 grams), obv. Zeus head right, rev. monogram of AX letters A N across, monogram of **PARW* below, wreath around, (cf.S.2998, Clerk 195, BCD 1491 [LHS 96], BMC 104-5, McClean 6486-7, Agrinion Hoard 354-369); another similar Messene mint, (175-168 B.C.), (2.385 grams), rev. XA monogram above XAP monogram, M below, (cf.S.2989, Clerk 297, BCD 722.8 [LHS 96], McClean 6500, Agrinion Hoard 326-329) (illust); another Patrae mint (early 1st century B.C.), (2.36 grams), rev. XA monogram, above AP monogram, **X E - P A* across, (cf.S.2976, Clerk 78, BCD 508.6 [LHS 96], BMC 42, McClean 6409-6410) (illust); Arcadia, Megalopolis, silver triobol, (c.320-275 B.C.), (2.41 grams), Obv. Zeus head left, rev. Pan seated left, (S.2687, BCD 1526 [LHS 96], BMC 54). Toned, fine - nearly very fine, several very scarce issues. (4)
The second coin (Messene mint) from the Diakofto Hoard (on the west coast 20km east of Aegium in Achaeia), (ICGH 262, and found 1965). The hoard recorded with a full and detailed photographic record which is held in the British Museum. The hoard originally acquired by Spink & Son, London c.1970.
