Boiotia, Thebes mint, Theoti.. Magistrate, 363-348 B.C., AE 13, (1.82 grams), Obv. youthful head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin headdress, Rev. club to left placed above bow upwards, above **Q*E[O] / T I all within incuse concave circle. (cf.S.2406, BCD 549c [This Coin], cf.BMC 174, SNG Cop. 358). Good very fine/ nearly extremely fine and rare.
Ex BCD Collection (Triton IX, lot 549c illustrated). This is an issue in bronze from a magistrate that had a corresponding rare silver stater issue (Hepworth 60). BCD notes that the issue is placed immediately after Epaminondas and in respect to that great statesman his successor limited his stater issues giving more exposure to his illustrious predecessor. The use of the ethnic **QEOTI* also coincides with that of the shortened version of the Theban ethnic.
