Group of Eight: Order of the British Empire (GVIR); Military Cross (GVR); 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 with MID; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45; India Service Medal. 2/Lieut H.R.Briggs 51/Punjabis on first, Capt. J.F.Bowtell-Harris on second and third. Impressed. Very fine.
M.C.: L.G. Captain Harris commanded a successful Raiding Party, which he had personally trained, on the German Trenches near Hollmbeke on th enight of 30th Sep/1st Oct. He took his post on the enemy parapet which was under shell fire and controlled his party with coolness and determination. This officer's party killed thirteen Germans and bombed several dugouts. His leadership was to a very great extent responsible for the success of his party. Brig. J.F.Bowtell-Harris OBE MC. Born St Kilda, Victoria 9May1896. Enl.15Aug1914. LCpl 15May1915, Cpl 18May1915, Sgt 19Jun1915, 2Lt 28Sep1915, all at Gallipoli. Lt 12Mar1916, Capt 1Aug1916. Disch 2Jul1918 to join Indian Army, 3rd Bn, 2nd Punjab Regt, Karachi, India. With miniatures, original letters, journal, photographs including V-Day sequence, Royal appointment as officer, Hyderabad State research, contemporary history of Indian General Service Corps by recipient, regiment research, copy of roll, letters of appreciation to recipient's wife for wartime service.
