Syria, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, (312-280 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.024 grams), uncertain Cappadocia/ Northern Syrian mint (Newell mint C), c.281-280 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, Nike in outstretched hand, **SI* to left to right **SELEUKOU*, in exergue **[BA]SILEWS, (cf.S.6830, Newell WSM 1346, [p.240, pl.LII, 11). Good very fine, very rare.
Ex Dr. Colin Burnside Collection, and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 57 (lot 966). Newell knew of only one example of this type and for all varieties of this mint for this ruler three examples.
