Italy, Lucania, Herakleia, (330-280 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.808 grams), obv. head of Athena to right wearing laureate crested Attic helmet, ornamented with Scylla, above traces of I-HPAK**LHIW N*, rev. I-HPAK**LHIWN* to right, **AQA* to left, Heracles standing facing, club in hand, holding lion's skin and club, jug above to left, (cf.S.391; SNG ANS 73 [similar dies], Work 60, Van Keuren 84 [similar dies, only one reported]). Off centred on the obverse and struck from worn die, otherwuise very fine and a rare type, with a clear reverse ethnic.
