Macedon, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.544 grams), Abydus mint, issued 310-297 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with snake, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, to left M within corn wreath, cornucopia in lower left field, to right **ALEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702; Price 1562 [p.232, PL.VI], M.375, BMC 1562). Good very fine and rare.
