Egypt, Kingdom of, Ptolemy VIII Euergetes, (145-116 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, Alexandria mint, struck year 32 = 139-138 B.C., (14.024 grams), obv. head of Ptolemy to right with aegis, rev. eagle to left on thunderbolt with closed wings, to left L**LB*, to right **PA*, around **BASILEWS PTOLEMAIOU**, (cf.S.7908, Sv.1505, SNG Cop.-, BMC 42 and 60). Very fine or better and very scarce.
This and the next sixteen tetradrachm lots are an interesting group of Ptolemaic dated coins. All coins are dated by a regal year that can be converted to our calender dating system. The only published Australian collection with similar dated pieces is the Jon Hosking Collection housed in the Nicholson Museum at the University of Sydney.
