Justinian II, (first reign 685-695), gold solidus, Constantinople mint, issued 687-692, (4.262 grams), officina ?, obv. bust facing of Justinian with beard as a row of dots, wearing chlamys and crown, holding cross on globe, around D IUSTINIA [NUS PE A]V, rev. cross potent on base and three steps, below CONOB, around VICTORIA AVGU A?, (S.1245, DOC 4a-c [same obverse die], BMC -). Edge has been lightly filed around, weak in places, otherwise nearly very fine and a rare variety.
