Crete, Gortyna, (2nd-1st century B.C.), silver drachm, (octobol Sear), (4.842 grams), obv. diademed head of Zeus to right, countermarked by bull charging right, dotted border, rev. Europa seated on bull galloping to right, veil billowing out behind her head, around **GORTUNIWN, I*, countermarked with head of Artemis or Apollo right, (cf.S.3184, Sv.116 [p.172, cf.Pl.XV, 22], Mionnet II, 178 [p.280]). Porous, lightly toned, otherwise very fine and rare.
