Group of Five: 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal 1939-45 with Pathfinder Force Badge; British War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. 424673 R.Newbiggin on third, fourth and fifth medals. First and second medals unnamed, third, fourth and fifth medals impressed. Extremely fine.

Enl.06Oct19142 Dis.04Dec1945 Together with group photograph of the air crew with Newbiggin centre, also a copy of Award of Pathfinder Force Badge dated 28 May 1945, copy of Officers Certificate of Service, two original Flight Lieutenants shoulder epaulettes, original medal forwarding slip No.2073 from RAAF Medal Section, photocopied research of his flight details and squadron records from March 1943 for operations Dec1944 to the end of the war. Newbiggin flew 28 operations as a Lancaster pilot in 195 Squadron (3 group) and then 35 Pathfinder Squadron (8 group), the research shows in detail his daily raids to various installations in Germany; a photocopy of page 430 from 'Air Power Over Western Europe 1944/45' in which there is a refernce to this pilot 'The success of night raids depended very heavily on prompt and accurate target marking and some outstanding work was done throughout this period by Squadron Leader Nicholls and Flight Lieutenant Newbiggin of No.35, Squadrons of No.8 P.F.F. Group', a footnote refers to F-Lt R.Newbiggin, 424673, 195 and 35 Sqns RAF Clerk of Newcastle NSW, b.Newcastle 25Mar1921.
