Military Cross (GVR). Lieut. A.Murray 49th Bn A.I.F. Engraved. Cased. Extremely fine.

MC: LG. 15Oct1918. 'On 7th July at Vaire Wood, east of Corbie, near Amiens, Lieut A Murray left his Coy Lines at 2.30pm to dal with a hostile machine gun which had been harassing his front. His party had consited of one Lance Coporal and one man. Crawling over 'No Man's Land' for a distance of 100 yards he entered the enemy's trench and worked up it for about 150 yards until he located an enemy sentry mounted on a gun. He rushed the gun, killing the sentry and capturing the machine gun and bombing an enemy dugout killing 1 officer and 4 men. He took two prisoners. The success of this operation in which he showed disregard for personal safety, was due to the skill and daring of Lieut Murray.' $$ Albert Murray.
