Q. Pomponius Musa, (c.66 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.806 grams), obv. Apollo laureate head to right, flower on stalk behind, rev. Terpsichore, the Muse of Dancing, standing to right, holding a lyre and plectrum, Q. POMPONI on left, MVSA on right, (S.358 [£165 VF], Cr.410/7d, Syd.820a, B. Pomponia 17a). Light obverse scratch and slightly porous reverse, otherwise good very fine and very rare.
The Musa types are always collected because of their association with the arts. Terpsichore was the Muse of dancing and is potrayed on this coin with her attributes. Less than 10 dies were utilised for this type according to the study by Crawford.
