Description
Phoenicia, Aradus, (202-133 B.C.), silver drachm, (3.300 grams), issued year 90 = 170-169 B.C., obv. bee with open wings dividing q B, all within dotted border, rev. stag standing to right, palm tree behind, before **[A]RADIWN*, (cf.S.5989, BMC 150). Large full flan, attractive dark grey patination, otherwise very fine and rare.
The derivation of this coin type from Ephesus is obvious and it was probably due to some purely commercial reason. The series is dated and each group of letters on the obverse corresponds to a specific date (p.xxx-xxxi BMC).
