Corinthia, Corinth, Tiberius, (A.D. 14 - 37), AE As, (6.20 grams), issued A.D. 32-33, issue of L. Arrius Peregrinus and L. Furius Labeo, obv. veiled head of Livia (as Pietas) to right, traces of magistrates name around, rev. hexastyle temple inscribed GENT IVLI, traces of magistrates name around, (cf.S.197 [£30], BMC -, Amandry Group XVI, obv. h, rev. 1e.1 [This Coin], this coin illustrated plate XVI, 1e reverse only, Lanz BCD Sale 105, lot 385 realised 280 euros [VF]). Portraits fine, temple nearly very fine, weak legends, very rare.
Ex BCD Collection [from duplicates but the only known example from these dies] acquired from Arnold Spier in December 1981, lot includes ticket and photographs. This piece is the only known from this set of dies and is illustrated in the standard reference Michael Amandry 'Le Monnayage des Duovirs Corinthiens', Paris 1988. In all Amandry reports 5 only examples from all dies of this type three of which are in public collections.
