After firing one round, his gun was knocked out, the layer being killed and the carriage smashed. The other gun of his section knocked out four tanks but the remainder got away. On 21 May 41 while occupying a new position his vehicle went over a covered mine, two of his party being killed. He has been acting as a tropp Comd., since the middle of July and as such accompanies the BQMS on his nightly ration delivery to guns among minefields and often under heavy shelling and MG fire. On 26 Jul 41 at 0300 hrs while on this duty his truck was blown up by a mine. Through all these mishaps he has remained cool and cheerful and has set a splendid example of courageous behaviour to his men'. MID.: L.G. 23Jun1942. Together with some research and a photograph.
