Description

Gwalior, Ajit Singh (A.H.1235-1274, A.D.1819-1857), as feudatory of Daulat Rao Sindhia (A.D. 1794-1827) Bajranggarh mint, silver rupees, year 23 (1821) (3, one with divided date), year 24 (1822) (2), another as year 11 (sic), another un-dated (c.1827-1861), all with lotus flower symbol, and bow and arrow symbol, (KM.16, 17, Lingen & Wiggins No.02, 03). Fine - nearly extremely fine, the year 11 variant unpublished. (7)

Ex Stan Goron Collection with his tickets for year 22, 23 & 11, these from Robert Senior by private treaty, year 23 divided date from Wodak Collection, year 24 from Glendining's 30/4/1981 (lot 291 part) and undated from Spink Australia Sale 8 (lot 464 part). $$ The year 11 variant is impossible for the series type which is only known from years 23 to 29 (1821-1827), clearly a die engravers error, this certainly very unusual and apparently not previously noted.
