Group of five to Sergeant Alexander Robertson Edgar, 78 Squadron, Royal Air Force

Distinguished Flying Medal (GVIR) (581279 Sct A.R.Edgar R.A.F.); 1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45 (MID). Distinguished Flying Medal named engraved, others unnamed. Very fine.

DFM: London Gazette 9 May 1941. 'For gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations whilst serving in 78 Squadron. This N.C.O. has taken part in 27 operational sorties with this squadron involving a total of 211 flying hours. Sergeant Edgar has impressed all Captains with whom he has flown by his exceptional ability. He has shown an outstanding warlike spirit and eagerness to partake in any sortie against the enemy, he has shown complete disregard of danger under all conditions of enemy fire and bad weather flying and his accuracy and determination as a Navigator have on many occasions enabled his aircraft to return safely to its base despite bad weather conditions.'

Remarks by Station Commander: 'This N.C.O. has shown exceptional skill and determination in all his operational flights. Through his coolness and warlike spirit, he has navigated his aircraft both to and from the target, in spite of hostile action and adverse weather conditions. He has set a fine example of determination and pluck and is strongly recommended for the award of the Distinguished Flying Medal.'
MID: London Gazette 24 September 1941. 'His Majesty has been graciously pleased to give orders for the publication of the name of the following who been mentioned in despatches by Air Officers Commanding-in-Chief for gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations.'

Together with MID certificate and coloured portrait photograph of recipient in uniform. Later killed in action.
