MM: London Gazette 31 August 1944. 'For gallant and distinguished services in North West Europe. During the evening of 19 June 1944 L/Cpl Redshaw was delivering important SDR packages to units of 151 (Durham) Inf Bde engaged in continuous action in the region of TILLY SUR SEULLES 8468. On approaching HQ 2 ESSEX along the BAYEUX - TILLEY road, at that time under heavy enemy shell fire, a 150 mm salvo landed on and astride the road knocking him from his M/C and wounding him the right leg. The M/C was badly damaged, but, in spite of the pain from his wounds and although suffering severely from shock, L/Cpl Redshaw was determined to complete his mission and deliver the despatches. This he did, subsequently returning to Bde HQ, where he was evacuated to the Advanced Dressing Station. Throughout the whole day, L/Cpl Redshaw made a number of journeys under similar heavy fire, showing quite exceptional courage, devotion to duty and disregard for his personal safety. He set an inspiring example to the men in his section and assisted materially in the maintenance of vital communications.'
Together with copy of original recommendation for award; congratulatory letter from the Brigade Commander; group photograph with General B. L. Montgomery and autographed by the general; Buckingham Palace forwarding slip; and medal advisory form.
