MM: London Gazette 1 November 1945. 'In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Burma. On 27th July 1945 Hav. Karamat Hussain was in command of No. 3 Pl. in position at map ref. 051050, during the breakout of the Japanese 28th Army. At 0400 hrs the enemy put in an attack in strength which was repelled. The Japanese withdrew and opened heavy and sustained L.M.G. and rifle fire on the platoon position, causing casualties. Realising that it was essential to silence the L.M.G.'s, Hav. Karamat Hussain picked up a L.M.G. and under heavy enemy fire, crawled from his own perimeter to within a few yards of the Japanese position, from where he opened up with deadly and accurate fire which silenced both the enemy L.M.G.s. On arrival of another Pl. from his coy., Havildar Karamat Hussain requested permission to attack the enemy. Permission granted he led his platoon up to the Japanese position and in the face of determined fire personally led a bayonet charge which successfully overran the position, and resulted in 35 enemy, including two officers, being killed. His leadership and determination to destroy the enemy was an inspiration to all his men.'
