Group of seven to Lieutenant Colonel Hampden Ashburner Hughes, 11th Sikh Regiment/16th Punjabi Regiment, Indian Army
Distinguished Service Order (1943); Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE); India General Service Medal 1936 - two bars - North West Frontier 1936 37, North West Frontier 1937-39 (Capt. H.A.Hughes. 2-11 SIK H.R.); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star (8th Army); British War Medal 1939-45 (MID); India Service Medal 1939-45. Court mounted as worn. India General Service Medal named, impressed, others unnamed. Very fine.
DSO: London Gazette 25 November 1943: 'In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East.'
MBE: London Gazette 30 December 1941: 'In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East (including Egypt, East Africa, The Western Desert, The Sudan, Greece, Crete, Syria and Tobruk) during the period February, 1941 to July, 1941.'

Hampden Ashburner Hughes. Born 9 Aug 1906. Educated Wellington & Royal Military College Sandhurst. 2nd Lieut. Lincoln Regt 1926, seconded RWAFF 1929-34, ADC to Governor C in C Gold Coast. Served on operations with 2nd Royal Bn 11th Sikhs in NWF, served in 1939-45 war with 4th Indian Div Eritrea & North Africa. Commanded 4th 16th Punjab in 8th Condt 1945-47; retired 1948.
