Archbishops of York, Wigmund, (c.837-854 Pirie chronology), billon sceat, phase II, Group Cii (Pirie), obv. +VIGMVND, around cross in centre, rev. +EDELHELM around cross in centre, (S.870, Pirie 1470 [same dies]). Extremely fine.
Privately purchased in 1976. The statement of only a purchase date in the footnote on this and other English coin lots generally indicates that Mr.W.H.Lampard acquired the coin from a fellow collector who he sometimes named in his listing or from an uncertain source probably in his travels either in New Zealand or overseas.
