Description

Republic, Mn. Aquillius Mn.f. Mn.n (c.71 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, obv. helmeted bust of Virtus right, rev. consul Man. Aquillius raising Sicilia around MN AQVIL MN F MN N, in exerque SIC[IL], (S.288, Cr. 401/1, Syd. 798). Dark tone with mint bloom on the reverse, serrated edge, good extremely fine and rare thus.

This refers to the successes in Sicily of Man. Aquillius (consul B.C. 101) and to the exceptional valour which he displayed throughout the war.
