Phoenicia, Tyre, (c. 2nd century B.C. - 1st century A.D.), silver shekel or tetradrachm, (14.29 grams), Tyre mint, issued 102-101 B.C., obv. laureate head of to right of the beardless Melqarth, rev. eagle to left with closed wings, carrying palm, standing on prow of ship, club to left, to left EK (date 25 = 102-101 B.C.), to right DPK monogram, Phoenician letter between legs, around TYPOY IEPAS KAI ASY[LOY], (S.5918; cf.BMC 218, cf.SNG Cop. 319, Hendin 305). Some minor surface porosity, otherwise extremely fine and a rare variant.
